BOTOX
San Francisco Specialists
Thousands of people have benefitted
from the rejuvenating effects of Botox. San Francisco Specialists
sees countless men and women of varying ages improve, or
even prevent, their premature aging. By temporarily reducing
the appearance of facial wrinkles, Botox refreshes the
face, leaving it looking more rested.
Botox is FDA-approved
for the reduction of wrinkles in the upper
portion of the
face.
It is specifically
effective for three sets of creases: Crows feet found at
the outer corners of the eyes, horizontal wrinkles along
the forehead, and vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows.
The Botox solution is injected into the muscle in the area
of treatment, relaxing it loosening its grip on the overlying
skin. With the loss of strain from below, the skin eases
up and the wrinkles subsequently smooth out.
Botox injections
are performed on an outpatient basis and require no anesthesia.
If preferred,
a numbing cream can be applied before treatment. However,
little pain is involved, as the solution is injected
through a fine needle, and the treatment is quite short,
usually
lasting just 15-20 minutes or so.
Risks:
When pursuing any invasive procedure, patients should be
aware of the risk of infection, bleeding, or a reaction
to any type of anesthetic used. When it comes to Botox,
specificially, risks may include swelling, numbness,
bruising. More rarely - temporary headaches, nausea,
flu-like sypmtoms, droopy eyelid. Be sure to discuss
with your doctor the steps that can be taken to prevent
these
potential
risks.
Recovery:
Patients can carry on with normal daily activities immediately
following their Botox treatment. Results won't be evident
right away, but usually take about 3-8 days to develop.
Pain or discomfort after treatment is extremely rare.
Your doctor can demonstrate messaging and position techniques
to help avoid any negative side effects. Results usually
last for about 4-6 months, and progressively lengthen
with each follow-up Botox treatment.
