To achieve ultimate breast implant
surgery results, the implants can be placed either under
or over the muscle wall. Each patient's own body structure
and preferred results will help determine which method
is most appropriate.
There are advantages to each method,
and drawbacks. When breast implant surgery involves placement
over the muscle, the surgery and recovery time are shorter
and usually less pain is involved, since the muscle is
not touched. However, because the implant is near the
surface of the breast, it and its flaws may be more visible.
When the implant is inserted under the muscle, a long
surgery and recovery period can be expected, as well
as moderate discomfort, but because the implant is shielded
by natural tissue, the reults usually look more natural.
This is a simplified explanation
of some of the advantages and disadvantages of different
implant placement techniques. The details of your options
should be discussed during a consultation with your
plastic surgeon.
