Rhinoplasty,
often informally referred to as a nose job, is appropriate
for a wide range of ages. Starting in the teen years,
many people pursue the surgery to correct a nose that
was previously broken, to improve breathing problems,
or to make the nose more proportionally fit the rest
of the face.
Rhinoplasty is usually performed
on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Depending
on the reason for surgery, there are various rhinoplasty
techniques that may be used. With the different methods,
the incision may be made inside the nostrils, or at
the base of the nose, and then bone, cartilage, and
tissue is reshaped to the desired contour.
Rhinoplasty can certainly be performed
on its own for remarkable results. Many
San Francisco rhinoplasty patients, however, find benefit
from have the surgery performed in conjunction with
other procedures, such as chin implants or a facial
lift.
Risks:
When pursuing any surgical procedure, patients should
be aware of the risk of infection, bleeding, or reaction
to anesthesia. When it comes to rhinoplasty, specifically,
potential risks can include asymmetry, excessive
swelling, or incomplete healing which would necessitate
a second operation.
Recovery:
After rhinoplasty, a protective cast is worn for about
7-10 days and bruising and swelling shoud fade in
about 2-4 weeks. The final rhinoplasty result can
take a year or more to really develop, but a satisfying
appearance will develop in just 3 months of surgery.
